Bukit Bintang Rotary Club’s Agricultural Education Project: “Field of Hope” Attracts Participation from 30 Farmers
Sin Chew Daily , 22/10/2022
(Semenyih, 22nd) The Bukit Bintang Rotary Club's “Field of Hope” agricultural education program at Noble Gateway, Sungai Makau (mile 14), has officially launched. In its first phase, the program received an enthusiastic response from 30 full-time and part-time farmers from Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur, who participated in the course focused on promoting eco-friendly farming practices.
Chang Guan Rui: Advocating for Sustainable Agricultural Development
Former Rotary District Governor of Malaysia, Chang Guan Rui, emphasized during the course opening ceremony that humanity is currently facing a worsening food crisis due to soil pollution. Therefore, the Bukit Bintang Rotary Club launched this initiative to protect soil and promote sustainable agricultural development.
He noted that when this concept was first introduced, it garnered attention from agricultural scientists, biologists, volunteer organizations, and the academic community, who provided various forms of technical assistance. As a result, the originally barren 2.4-acre land has now been improved with organic soil treatments and is yielding multiple harvests of vegetables and fruits.
Ye Zhen He Introduces the BEST Farming System
During the two-day course, Mok Hsu Wei from Noble Gateway shared practical experiences on soil improvement. Biologist Hung Shi Qian taught participants about the native microorganisms in the soil and analyzed the impact of chemical fertilizers on soil microbes.
Representatives from Canadian Bottronic Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen), led by Ye Zhen He, introduced the BEST farming system, which is being promoted domestically and internationally. The system activates dormant soil microorganisms and natural plant growth hormones through concentrated plant secretions, enhancing root growth and creating conditions for healthier crops with abundant yields.
On the second day, eco-friendly farming practitioner Lim Li Qian demonstrated and introduced organic composting methods and home-made organic fertilizers, explaining how to use them effectively.
Project Manager Zhou Wen Li expressed gratitude for the positive response from the participants and invited other farmers to register for the second course, scheduled for December. Those interested can contact Joanne Chew (012-267 6270) or Mr. Khoo (012-579 9802).
